• Great book. I enjoyed the epistolary format, and learned about the German occupation of the channel islands. I recommend it highly.
• A good book that will ruin you for enjoying bad books! This book is one of my favorite books of all-time. It's a short, enjoyble read with wonderful dry wit, an historical perspective (tells of characters' heart-wrenching experiences during the WWII German occupation of the Channel Islands) and wonderful characters you grow to love, laugh with and root for. I also love that the book is a collection of letters, so it's very easy to pick up and get a letter or two in while water boils or you wait in line somewhere. One of my favorite characters, Isola, summed it up, "Reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad books." I already feel less engaged in the other books I'm reading now--this one was so enjoyable!
• Refreshing Read Such a refreshing book that evokes the gamut of emotions and many reflections on this historical time! I'm sure reading it is a pleasure but listening to the marvelous voices on the CDs made it come totally to life! Kudos to all the actors. For my husband and myself, it was a marvelous experience in listening and enjoying every word and character!
